Edinburgh Decorative & Fine Arts Society

Who We Are

The Arts Society, formerly NADFAS, was founded in 1968 by Patricia Fay as an arts-based charity and has over 90,000 members in 385 local Societies in the UK and overseas.  All Societies subscribe to the aims of the advancement of arts education and appreciation and the preservation of our artistic heritage for the benefit of the public.

EDFAS is a member society of The Arts Society.  In 2017 the National Association of Decorative and Fine Arts Societies (NADFAS) changed its operating name to The Arts Society.  EDFAS was founded in 1970 as the Edinburgh Antiques and Fine Arts Society (EAFAS).  We changed our name to Edinburgh Decorative & Fine Arts Society (EDFAS) in 2006.  With c. 900 members EDFAS is the largest member society of The Arts Society.

EDFAS is an independent arts education charity registered in Scotland (no SC039651).  Our lecture and events programmes support these aims and the money we receive from Gift Aid and other donations and any surplus on events is available for charitable donations, which are aimed primarily at young people, arts education and access and also support our links with and specific projects at local institutions etc.  A full list of donations is published in our annual newsletter.
